In common with other townships in this thriving county, the township of Pnhoi is steadily advancing in prosperity and size. The latest addition to it i- n neat and haiid-omc cottage, erectied by Messrs Scholium and Russek, as a residence for Mr. j. Scholium snr. who intend, at; an early date, to retiie fio:u business and spend the rest of their lives in a well-earned 'leisure; ■ The township is to receive another avdition to it in the shape of a new, handsome, and up-to-date hotel which is erected by Mi\ John Scholium snr. to replace|the old one, which has, as a well-known find favourite hostel- I ry, s'nce the year of its establishment (1878) performed yoenian service to i the travelling- public. In the meantime sui able'and satisfactory arrangements have been made for the public until the new hotel is erected. Mr. Joe Scholium snr. son <if the proprieior is the architect and builder, and lie hopes to have the new building up and completed, early in December.

About twelve months ago, Captain Whitney obtained 2000 Kainbow Trout from Okoroii c hat hery and distributed them in the upper warters and tributaries of the Puhoi River. Itoivas thanght at tho time, that the fish would have small chance of thriving, as it was expi-cted that shags and eels wo\tld play havock amongst them, but this seems not to have been the case, as several rep rts have coite to hand lately that the trout are coining on splendidly, and seem to have been very little affected by-the causes stated \ibovG.
