A very successful entortainmtitt was held.in the Town Hall here on August the 2nd on the occasion of the inception.;of Troopers Hill and Mcllardy of the Fifth Contingent returned from South Africa Ovving'to sickness Trooper Hill was unable to be present. The Hall was beautifully decora'ed with •" ffags, for the occasion. The chairman,, Mr. W, H. Snelling, <m behalf of'all preeant gave trooper McHardy a hearty welcome, and expressed Mb regret at Trooper Hill's inability to bo present. Interspersed with songs, recitations w«re kept up till 12 o'clock, whon supper was partaken of, after which all went 'homa thoroughly -satisfied with the entertainment. A meeting of the Railway League was held in the Council Office on Friday Aiigtisft 9th. There were present Messrs' H. Cullen,. E. Ford, W. .T. "Bailey (secretary) Jas, Heinphill, .X» Ool%eek (chairman ©1 Whakapei-aft League), H.. Worthingtou (Marerefcu^ t and U. -Bketon (chairman Paparo* r League). j Mr. Cullen suggested that it would s be well, a« sooa 'as practicable to have c the liiie mapped into sections, so that a work might.^e wsmmeueed in two or . three different places.
