FIRST THREE ROUNDS
SS TEAMS TAKING PART in FIXTURE , Although conditions were rather cold at the commencement the weathei; improved , as the play in the opening rounds of the. Rotorua Bowiing Club's annual paifs tournament progressed at the Government Gardens greens yesterday and prospects"for completion of the fix- , ture in good conditions seem promising. The tournament was officially opened yesterday morning by'the President, Mr. A. J. WKite, and during the day three of the 10 rounds of section play were decided. At the start the bitterlj'' cold conditions associated with a tricky wind had an upsetting influence on the play of piany teams' and even when the sun dried them out, the greeps remained fairly dead and diffieult. Thess eonditic-ns were indicated by ' several inexplicable lapses by some of the most prominent teams- ancl generally play during the day was below the usual high standard shown in this fixture. In the first round most Rotorua teams were unequal to the conditions and, with the exception of A. F. and E. C. Budd, all lost their matches, while at the elose of play none had won all their games. " Ci Adams (Ngongotaha) was among those who had secured three wins, and with him were Hawken (Hamilton), Leather (Takapuna), Rowe (West End), Graham (Edendale), Blackburn (Poverty Bay), Keys (St. Heliers), and Colthurst (Auckland).
