• TOTAL N'OW OVER £32,00l),fll!:>. Rehabilitation- loan authorisations for December numbered 1652, valued at — 1,574,795, an advanee of 117, valued at £131,123 over those for November. The total rehabilitation loan authorisations were thus at the end of 1946 broug'ht up to 40.935, valued at £32,487,159. The eurrent totals are accounted for as follows: — =Erection of homes, 5078 loans, valued at £7, 157,181; purchase of homes, 8324, valued at £8,259.648; establishment of farms, 33-32, valued at £12,817,390; establishment of businesses, 4270, valued at £2,440,688; furniture, 18,800, valued at £1, 279,203; tools of trade, 978, valued at £32,61.6; and miscellaneous, 243, valued at £50,424. A feature of recent monthly authorisation figures is that though some have shown a tendency to maintain a fairly steady level, those made for Ihe erection of homes have shown a consistent increase. For December there were 407 loan authorisations for the erection of homes made, to a value of £593,901, as compared with 342, valued at £503,901 for Novemher and October, 292, valued at £418, 372. This is in part accounted for by the 50 per cenU allocation of building timber made to ex-members of the forces for home building.
