When I was serving with the Air Foree at a northern operational base, an Allied squadron made its headquarters near by. Its members soon achieved local fame for the amount of liquor they eould obtain (and eonsume), and a certain amount of jealously arose. The medical orderly of our (imit had a dry wit, and a dry throat. Blackwater fever was being reported occasionally from nearby islands, and I was in the hbspifal tent one afternoon when the pilot o-f t;an ambulance plane strode in, and said, :'T'nT afraid I'yp got a case of blaaktva'ter on the ldtffi Wfhat'li'I- do?"' The orderly's reply Vas. iminediate." ."Better" take it over to the Yanks. Thqse blokes'll drink anything'." |
