CAR ACCIDENT VICTIM NAVY EX-SERVICEMAN
I iamee At Carpentry School In Rotorua The victim of the fatal motor accident at the junetion of Lake Road and Hamilton highway early on Saturday mcrning- was identified later by means of his R.S.A. badge. He was: — Jack Stuart, aged 21, a trainee at the Rotorua -carpentry school, who fesided with Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Mabbetts, of Fairy "Springs Road.
Deceased, whose neck was broken, but who reeeived no other injuries, had over two years' service wilh the R.N.Z.N., in the destroyer Atherstone, mcstly in the Mediterranean, and was a native of Palmerston North, where he worked prior to his enlistment. He was held in high esteem by his fellow-apprentices. The funeral will take place this afternoon. An irfquest was opened by the District -Coroner, Mr. W. L. Richards, on Saturday, and adjourned sine die after evidence c-f identification had been given. Of the other two occupants of the car it was reported last night that Mrs. Laughton, who suffered^a slight cut to her foot, and shock, was discharged from the Rotorua Hospital yesterday. The driver of the vehicle, Mr. Victor Caudwell, is reported to be progressing satisfactorily from injuries to a finger.
