OPERATING LOSS ON N.Z. RAILWAYS
1 ! An operating loss of i;105,65H was | inturred by Ncw Zealand railways | during the four wcoks ended January i 1, which ineluded the busy holiday tralfic period. The levenue for the | four weeks amounted to £1,069,130, i and the expeiulitufe to £1,174,789. The ! toial loss on rnilway operations was £161,748, hui this was reduced to £105,659 by net revenae of £56,089 earned hy miscelianeous and subsidiary sevvices onerated .by the Railways Department. For the period of the crrrent financial year from April 'I last to January 4, there was an operating loss of £280, 196. Revenae for that period amounted io i'l 1.625,711 and expenditure to £11,905,807. All railway services showed an operating loss, which totalled .1676.216. The loss on the North Island main ) iine and branches was .1221.625, that j on the Sotnh Island maia line and j'bianehes 1135,91), and that on the Nelson line .119,545. The net revenue ; frum miscelianeous and snbsidiary j -ei'vices wjts 1396,120. i The apital cost of opcn iines as at j March 31 last was 171,166,731.
