HOUSES CHANGE COLOUR OVERNIGHT
WOLLONGONG. Three weatherboard houses in the western end of Gipps Street, Wollongong, changed colour overnight, following a recent severe storm. Two of the houses were painted cream and the other was stone-col-oured: They all turned blue-grey. The white walls inside have also been affected. They are now stained brown, although they first weiit bluegrey. Mrs. J. H. Dixon, one'of the residents, believes ammonia fumes from a nearby well beionging to. the Wollongong Gaslight Company may have been blown on to the houses by strong winds. She thought the company had recently constructed a new well closer to the houses. Mr. F. C. Greig, manager of the Wollongong Gaslight Company, said the well had.been moved only about 50 feet from where it had been situated for many years. Residents had never complained before, he said, but he had decided to move the well to its former position, ])ending further information. Wollongong Council health officers liave talcen samples from the walls of Ihe. houses and have forwarded them to the Government analyst.
