OFFICER ASSASSINATED BY ITALIAN WOMAN

LONDON, February 11. Brigadier R. W. M. de Winton, Commander of tiffe 13th Infantry Brigade, was assassinated in Pola to-day. A woman who was later arrested is reported to be an Italian who reeently amved in Pola. The Brigadier who was aged 39, held the D.P-.O. and Bar. British General Headquarters in Italy ""says that Brigadier de Winton was inspecting troops when an unidentified woman of unlcnown nationality walked up to him, pulled a revolver from her handbag and shot him. She was immediately arrested. ' The Exchange Telegraph correspondent says an eailier attempt on Brigadier de Winton's life was made last weelc. -Tension is high in Pola, which is one of the cities which Italy loses under the peace treaty signed in Paris to-day.
