TENSION INCREASING IN PALESTINE
Evacuees Now Arriving In Cairo LONDON, Feb. 7. Tension has increased in Pales- . ; fcine, according to the Colonial .»* Secretary, Mr. A. Creech Jones. - He reveals that terrorists have threatened to take more hostage* if the death sentence on Dov Gruner is carried out. He said the message sent by the Palestine Government to the Jewish Agency was not an ultimatum but a request for a specific answer. Was the 'Agency prepared to co-operate iit stamping%out terrorism? Mr. Cv^ech Jones said that the British who were not evacuated would be concentrated in special quarters. It is stated offieially that the case of Gruner is to be considered by the High Commissioner for Palestine. Gruner's execution was postponed while the question of an appeal to the Privy Council was being proeeeded with. Later, he said he was unwilling to appeal. About 170 evacuees have arrived in Cairo. President Truman has again been asked to intervene in Palestine, this time by an American Jewish conference in New York.
