\ To-Day's Weather Forecast The Government Meteorologist has issued the following' weathei* report and forecast: — * ' Situation : A ridge of high pressure lies across the North Island. A ridge across the South Island is moving northwards. Forecast for Rotorua: Moderate westerly winds, predominating; low cloud in some areas; weather otherwise fine and; warm. Yesterday's maximum temperature recorded in the to.wn area was 79.8 degrees, compared with 80.4 on Thursday. Presentation of Service Medals At the ann'ual reunion of the Ngongotaha Fire Brigade to be held tonight at the Centennial Hall, five-year long-servic'e medals will be presented to Superintendent S. D. Morrow, Deputy-Superintendent Ivan Lyle, Foreman N. Davies and Fireman J. Scanlan. Trpohies competed for at a competition last December will also he presented. Ngongotaha Brigade's. Calls A eall to the public school at 1.30 p.m. yesterday was answered by the .Ngongotaha Fire Brigade when a hedge fire was promptly dealf with. Bowl That Went Astray An incident which occurred in the final 0f the bowling tournament at the Government Gardens yesterday provided some amusement for the gallery, when a player put a bowl down on the wrong bias. The bowl slowly drew perfectly to a kitty two rinks away, and ended up as a toucher, amid loud applause from the crowd, but the player made up for his fe.eling of discomfort with the next bowl when he drew another toucher to the legitimate kitty. French Naval M.en in Rotorua Strolling Rotorua's streets in their picturesque red, white and blue, unifroms yesterday, a party of olficers and men from the French sloop Grandiere, which is berthed in Auckland, attracted considerable attention. The party is accompanied by an interpreter, and yesterday morning it visited the Blue Baths. In the afternoon the visitors were seen in the Government Gardens. It is understood that the party will stay in Rotorua for several more days befofe rejoining the ship. Rotorua Cricket Teant The Rotorua representative eleven to play the Whakatane representatives at Whakatane to-day weelc has been seleeted as follows: E. Andrews, I). J. Ewert, W. E. Higgins, G. Hobhs, W. Costello, J. Sherriff, (Old Boys); M. Curtis, C. Simmers (City-Albion); I. Lawrence, D. Rose, R. Spedding, W. Barron (R.S.A.); P. Lyle (Ngongotaha); and D. Laurcnee (Kahukura). A practice will be held at the Kuirau Reserve on Tuesday evening. Any players who are not available should notify the selectors immediately. ^wimming Carnival To-Night Swimmers from Te Puke, Matamata, Tauranga and Rotorua districts, will take part in the Whakarewarewa Amateur Swimming Club's carnival to be held at the Blue Baths to-night. An excellent programme has been arranged, and included is a special diving exhibition by D. J. Ewert, triple New Zealand champion.
