INCORPORATION OF S.P.C.A.
• ^ FURTHER PETS' PARADE TO BE HELD NEXT MONTH
At the monthly meeting of the ; general executive of the Rotorua ! S.P.C.A., held this week," recommend- ] ations from the Society's honorary j solicitor, Mr. R. A. Potter, were con- j sidered and as a result, the meeting j decided that the Society should in- 1 corporate under the Incorporated Societies' Act 1908, as the Rotorua Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, Inc., and steps are already in hand to effect this. On a recommendation from the finance committee, it was decided to conduct a £25 alluvial gold art union for the purpose of raising funds for the contirhxance of the society's activities. The Clinic Board reported that the stret appeal held in January had pfoduced a net return of £120 12s ld and this amount had made possible the purchase of the building on the Wiairoa Road, opposite Ti Street, for the purpose of conversion to an animal clinic. A lease of the sifce had already* been approved, and the matter waS well in hand. % The support given to the pet parade held in conjunction with the street appeal indicated that further parades during the yehr would be well patronised, and it was decided that a further parade would be staged before the end
of March, the date and conditions to be . advertised later. As a suggesiion to encourage support in t'he jnnior branch- of the Rotorua S.P.C.A. it was recommended that the next pet I parade be for persons under 18 years who are members of the Junior S.P.C.A. By paying the junior subscription of one shillin^ a ehild would then be entitled to show a pet.at the parade without entry fees, and as member, could be encouraged to take a greater interest in the more serious aspects of the movement. It is intended later to form classes and brigades for junior members, with regular meetings and pet parades as a means of fostering correct eare and attention to pets. The society's 'honorary inspeetors reported on several cases brought to their notice during the month, all of which were cases of neglect. It was unfortunate that although one case was of a serious nature, insuffiicient evidence was available upon which to base a firra case for prosecution. It was pointed out out that the present laws were not suificiently wide to'permit firm action in all cases of apparent cruelty, but' it was hoped that, as a result of recommeridations made by the federation, the laws would come j under revision this year.
