MONEY STOLEN FROM CAR LEADS TO POLICE CHARGE

Theft of £6 from a parlce.l car resulted in Alexander Swain, deseribed as a labourer, aged 50, with no fixed abode, appearing in the Police Court at Rotorua yesterday morning? Senior-Sergeant N. S. Milligan explained to Messrs. J. J. Dillon and G. H. French, Justices of the Peaee, that, on February 3 last, Mr. C. L. Hill, a Kaharoa farmer, had left his home in his car to inspect stock, passing a man csn t'he highway. The vehicle had later beeu parked 011 the roadside, and complainant had left his wallet, containing £3, hidden under the back seat. Subsequently complainant on returning to his car had seen the man he had passed on the roadside in the vicinity, but not until after this, had discovered the wallet there but the morey missing. His suspicions had then been aroused. Accused,^ said the senior-sergeant, had been brought to the police station and, after being searched, the money discovered. Ac-cused, it was stated, had a lengthy list of previous convictions. Swain was sentenced to three months' imprisonment. o
