ONLY EIGHT REMAIN FOR •: TO-DAY'S FINAL PLAY 3 — — At the conclusion' of section ijiatehes in the Rotorua Bowling* , Glufc's annual open rinks tournament yesterday. 15 teams (rualified for post-section games #nd at the end of the first roulid last evening, seven had been eliminated. The final will be reaehed late this afternoon. . Of the 15 teams which qualified . none was successful in going : through the section play undefeated, ;but Budd ('Rotorua) and Loram (Auckland), eaclt had only one loss. The other qaalifiers wero McMeekin . (Rotorua), Fisher (Remuera), Donjaldson (Carlton), Turner ((Carlton), 'Conder (Hataitai), Lancaster (Carlton), Adams (Ngongotaha), Gardiner (Otahuhu), Hopping (Te Awamutu), Woodhall (Whitiora), Taplin (Auckland Transport), Carroll (Auckland), and Potter (Tauranga). With several of the teams fighting for position, some keen contests were witnessed in the morning ronnls. The position was particularly interesting in . Section D, where three teams aeeded both games to avert elimination. » Woods ('tauranga), lost his opportunity when defeated by Casey (Rotorua), and in the next game was un>tble"to win against Lancaster .(Carlton), who had already beaten Hooper (St. HeiierV), and required the Tauranga game to qualify. Adams (Ngongotaha), had a elose call against King (Manawata), hut a g-ood recov6'ry gave hirn the game, and he then went on to aho defeat Xeedham (Wesi End). lJeteatedNin the first game of the day -by Bcdd, Abhott (Remuera), who required one win to remain in the contest. madt: a determined effort in the game with Loram and lost by the small margin of 19 — 18. Pakes (Rotorua). had six wins when he was defeated bi Turton (Huntly), in the final round, while Forsyth (Hamilton) was another who had a ehance hut was eliminated by Portman (Rotorua) in the last game. Carroll (Auckland) was narrowly successful against P. Stewari (Matamata), and carried cn to win fairly easily against Taplin *to secure the necessary wins. In the post-section matches, Woodball was foo strong for McMeekin's Rotorua team, an.l the Te Awamutu iticle-holders were eliminated by •Fisher. Although down in the early stages, Budd made a good recovery To accouut for Gardiner, while the 'Ngongotaha rink, skipped by G. Adams, played loo well for Auckland Tranvpor-i. and won comfortably, •25 — 7. *'> A good game between Conder and 'Donaldson went to Donaldson when 'he drew ihe shot on the final head, 'while Lancaster and Carroll also had "a hard siiuggle, the Carlton toarn ; Winning by three.
