Although there is no official rcport vet from the court which is enquiring :nt;> the kiil;ng of the Yugoslav Con■ul. \ icko Climie, when visiting a Chetnik camp near Naples, a British' radio reporter says that some information has come out about events leading up to the incident. He says it appears that hoth the Uors.:l and his companion had been g'iven warnings of the risk they were taking. Their application;; to visit Ihe camp were -approved only with the reservation that British military auiiorities would not he responsible for their persor.al safety. The firsl day they reached the camp they wero again varne.l, and the next day they were actually being advised of imnrinent danger when a crowd of Chetnik demonstrators broke into the office, dragged out the two Yugoslavs and began to attaek them. A Lorclon message on .January 28 ,said that Allied Air Force Headquartcrs at Caserta stated that the British officer commanding a camp at Fog'gio Reale, a few miles from Naples, 'did his best to dissuade the Yugoslav Cons.'l and his seeretary from entering the camp, but after first going away, they returned and eommenccd to address the men upon the advisability of returning to Yugoslavia. They were inimediately rushed, overoowered and lynehed. The; Manchester Guardian's Rome correspondent a.ided that the camp contained about 1000 Yugoslav soldiers, sopporters of King Peter. They were being maintained by the British Government pending a deeision about their destination and demobilisatibn.
