■yyHEN tlie Tarawera eruptiori hlew the famous Pink and White Terraces to pi*cel it was considered a major calamity. Nature, however, had a way of restoriug the balance. At the recently operied thermal area of Orakei-Korako has been revealed terraces as great in extent as the lost ones and presenting every conceivable colour*" tion from glittering white to deepest jade. The Orakei-Korako trip, however, mus* be considered in two sections. Firstly, the absorbing interegt of scenery on the road out where the heavily-timbered crown on the Horohoro ramparts throws a back scene for the smiling farms of the model native settlement at its foot; the evergreen gladea of the pine plantations of Forests' Products, Ltd.; a touch oi phantasy during a pause at the sacred "Witch's Rock"; Pohaturoa Peak, truly uni^9 in the world; Atiamuri Rapids, Rainbow Fali, Inspiration Point and Whaka Hes0 rapids on the Waikato River. All provide fresh points of interest. Secondly, tbere is the unequalled area of Orakei-Korako itself. Refreshment may be had at the pleasantly situated tea-room, and competent guides ferry visitors across the Waikato River in a steel-cabled ferry and conduct them around the valley of encbantfflen' where the great river provides a gentle undertone to the beautiful, bizarre Mf, f ascinating orchestration of Nature that is Orakei-Korako,. "The Place of Adorniufi with its crashing crescendo of colour, beauty and the fine fairy-like lovelinesi oi Aladdin's Cave. It can f airly he claimed that Orakei-Korako has every form oi thermal activity existent in the world and much that is found nowhere else.
