NEW HEAVY HAULAGE UNIT ARRIVES
> , The new Ford V8 heavy dttty truek equipped with Thornton four rear wheel drive kits (Ford V8 6 x 4) is on demonstration this week .under actual ■ working conditions in Rotorua. j These units have two rear driven axle assentblies. When equipped with j Ford axles, eight forward speeds ara ; availa-ble; with the addition of Eaton ' two-speed axle assem'blies, there is a , selection 'of 16 forward speods to chocse from. The latter gives a com- i plete range for the greatest variety ; of operating conditions, the lowast j gear ratio being 115 to one. These trucks will he available in j wheelbase ranging from 156 inches ! to 210 inches. The gross vehicle j rating is 26,0001b. to 20, 0001b., depen- ! ding upon the options which will be ! available. A new 3-3/16 bore W8 motor with high torque camshaft gives this latest truck engine greater torque at lower er.gine speed. A special "iinport licenee ha§, recently been gr&nted for a substantial ntimbcr of these units and the trucks are eminently suitable for the logging industry. By couftesy of the Stat^ Forest Service, one of these units has been demonstrating haulage on its regular work, ineluding the transport of fogs from plantations at Kaingaroa to the Waipa State Mill.
