To-Day's Weather Forecast The Government Meteorologist has issued the following weather report and. forecast: — Situation: A depression covers New Zealand, and a cold front advancing from the south-west, will pass over the Sorfth Island during to-night and to-morrow morning. It should cause only scattered showers in the far south. Forecast for Rotorua to midnight: Light to moderate easterly to north-easterly Winds; weather fair or fine, with warm day temperatures. The maximum temperature in the town area yesterday was 79 degrees, compared with 81 degrees the previ.ous day. For the 24-hour period ended 3.30 p.m. yesterday, a rainfall of .03 inch ' was recorded. Rotorua Races Regal Don is an additional acceptor for the -Rotorua races. He has 7.7 in the Geyser Handieap and 9.0 in the Pohutu High-weight Handieap. Auckland Wins Plunket Shield The points for the Plunket Shield crieket competition show that Auckland wins the trophy with 18 points, Wellington being- runner-up with 12, Ot'ago third with 10, and Canterbury fourth with four. Triple Offence A Maori youth, Georg'e Heitia, was discovered by a Touiist Department ranger fishing the Whirinaki River with a handline, with grub- as bait, and withcut a licence. For this triple offence, he was prosecuted by Mr. S. McNamara, Conservator of Fish and Game, in the Magistrate's Court yesterday, and finecl £2 on each charge. Boy's Body Washed Ashore The body of James Patrick O'Sullivan, the elder of the two sons of Mr. and Mrs. G. A. O'Sullivan, who were drowned at Ohope Beach on Sunday, was washed ashore at 1 o'clock yesterdaj^ afternoon a short distance from where the children were swept out by a breaker. An inquest was opened and adjourned. The Whakatane police launch was out all day yesterday continuing the search. ; Theft of Watch ! A middle-aged married man who pleaded guilty in the Magistrate's : Court yesterday td^the theft of a valuable watch from a store prsmises was discharged under Section 18 of ' the Pfobation Act by Mr. J. H. Luxi ford, S.M., and an order was made : suppressing the publication of his — name. The Magistrate said he took this very unusual course in view of the statements made by the Police and by defendant's counsel, Mr. R. A. Potter. Hinemoa Starts Run Monday With the removal of the Maunganui, to be renamed Cyrenia, from the floating dock, the new inter-island express steamer Hinemoa was doeked for a routine cleaning and painting. As the paint on all newr ships is only a f ew coats deep, the Hinemoa will require fairly frequent docking until a heavier layer of paint is built up, said the acting-marine superintendent of the Union S-teamship Company, Captain C. H. George. Fumigated recently, the Hinemoa is being kept in first-class condition for her debut in the Lyttelton service on Monday.
