EFFORTS TO PREVENT FOOD SCARCITY

WASHINGTON, February 3. The International Emergency Food Couneil, in an effort t(> speed world production and distribution to scarce f'oods. decided to recommend that member Governments review their probable production and needs in order to hasten agreement on distribution; that the couneil committees in addition to suggesting food allocations recommend methods to aid production; and that detailed allocation reeommendations be made as quickly as possible.

The couneil also decided to forni a seven-member committee to streamline the organisation and co-ordinate it with the United 'Xations' Footl and Agriculture Organisation. The United States Agriculture Department has allocated 1,500,000 tons of grain for export in March. This is the lai-gest allocation since the middle of 19'45. Britain will receive the bulk of the exports, namely 42,500' tons of wheat, 16,00 tons' of flour, 25,000 tons of corn. Her Pacific possessions will get 38,000 tons of flour and 17,000 tons of grain sorghums, and India 51,000 tons of wheat, 10,000 tons of flour and 1^,000 tons of grain.
