Miiies Working Again The Glen Afton and MacDonald mines resumed work yesterday morning, the dispute over a screen hand at the MacDonald mine having been settled. The Renown mine, however, was idle following a prolonged stopwork meeting. The meeting continued until after 11 o'clock when it was deemed to be too late to warrant going into the mine. It is understood the meeting at the Renown mine was to consider a report from the miners' delegates to the Federation of Labour conference in Wellington recently. January Weather The highest temperature recorded in Rotorua last month was 82.9 degrees, attained on the 28th and 31st. The lowest reading of 41.2 degrees was recorded on the 7th. The range was greater in January, 1946; when on the hottest day, the 12th, the thermometer showed 92.9 degrees and on the coldest day, the lst, fell to 37.7 degrees. The rainfall for the month just passed was 1 36inches, compared with .59 of an inch for the corresponding month of 1946, the greatest fall of .76 of a'n inch being on the 9th, compared with .28 of an inch on the 26th, a year ago. Rain fell in the respective periods on seven and eight days. There were no frosts last month and only one the previous January. Race Day Bus Services _ The New Zealand Road Services advises that next Saturday all afternoon passenger services to outlying dis- . tricts will be delayed to leave Rotorua at 6 p.m. except the Rotorua- Whaka-tane-Opotiki bus at 5 p.m. The 9.30 a.m. Mokai-Taupo and 10.30 a.m. , Taupo-Mokai, the 7 p.m. OruanuiTaupo, and 10.30 p.m. Taupo-Oruanui services will not run, but a special service will leave Mokai at 7.30 a.m. and leave Rotorua at 6 p.m.
