LATE DUKE OF KENT'S ART TREASURES

Vaiuable Furniture And . Pictures LONDON, January 25 The late Duke of Kent's collection of art treasures, which is to he sold at Christie's auction rooms in March, includes three very vaiuable paintings hy the Frehch painter, Claud Lorrain (1600-1682) which were acquired by the Duke in 1940'. In 1884, these pictures were sold for more than £11,550, hut the Duke was able to buy • them for £3885. When he -purchased them. the blitz was at its height, and, in addition, the size of the pictures (two of them are 7ft. hy 6ft), militated against their sale. The Duke's collection of silver includes twa very largie afilver wine coolers, made in 18'08, which weigh 367oz. The main section of tliet- collection, however, comprises very vaiuable Engiish and French period furniture, much of it of the reigh of Queen Anne and Louis XV. There are also two 'Sevres dessert ser-vices, a vaiuable collection of Chinese porcelain, and a noteworthy collection of old Dresden ware. The Duke manifested an eaifiy- interest in works of art and antiques, and hi's collection was huilt up with notahle discrimmation.
