HARRIS MAKES RECORD TIME IN HALF-MILE
WANGANUI, last night. Athletic history was made at Cook's Gardens on Saturday night when the visiting- American athletes appeared before a crowd of 40'00. Doug. Harris, of Auckland, N.Z. middle distance runner, in a photofinish, won the half-mile in time within one-fi.fth of a second of the world record, beating John Fulton (U.S.A.), so narrowly that there is not the sligktest douht that Fulton beat the American record for the distance. A1 Hershey (U.S.A.), established a New Zealand record in throwing the | discus. The young American sprinter, Don Campbell, was heaten in another photo-finish by Peter Henderson, of I Wanganui, who had the benefit of a five-yards' start. Don Campbell was definitely on top, however, in the 220' yards winning hy fivo yards from J. Clappott, of Taranaki. The time for the race was 22 2-5s.
