UNWANTED MILLIONS OF TREASURY NOTES

LONDON. Millions of Treasury notes which never reached a poUket or found tenxporary refuge in a cash register were recently destroyed by. order of the Govex-nment. They were srnall change notes for 5s and 2s 6d, intended for use during the war in the event of an invasion. A Treasury official said: "There was always a risk at the time that we were preparing against ixxvasion that soxne .part of the country might be cut off and becoxxxe short of sxnall nxoney.'So these notes were- printed, ibundled np and distributed to the various regioxis. There they were hidden. They were to be used'only in emergency."
