Recently a couple of Chinese toughs set out for a ride in a tongkang in the Straits, and when out of sightforced the owner 'into a dinghy and made off with the ship. Two days later the owner recognised one of the pirates in a crowd of ferry passengers and raised a hue and cry. The pirate txied to escape in a small sampan, but his frantic rowing ibroke an oar and he was overtaken. He was tied to a pole and carried to the police statiorf, where he was dumped in an outhouse and left to groan. When next visited he was found to be dead, and in the a'bsence of any official explanation we can only assume that his sins caught up with him. .
