DROME SELECTED FOR WHAKATANE
Prior to the holidays the Whakatane Aero and Gliding Club reeeived notification that the area at Awakeri (Luxton's paddock) was not suitable for use as a landing field, and as such
j could not be registered on the ofiicial ! Dominion list. Oibjectioms raised were | based mainly on the obstruction ■ created by trees and ' power lines in the vicinity. 1 The club has been actively engaged in a further search for a suitable field and negotiated for an area of Maorio'wped property near Piripai, amd near. the golf course. This new proposition should have wide appealy there being no obstructions wh'atever in the vicinity and the nature of the land being sandy and' light and level. The whole area could be quickly bronxght into conformity with the regulations at a minimum expense. There is over 106 acres and as sobn as it has been passed as suitable for listing as an ofiicial landing field steps will be taken to purchase, lease or part-lease the .properties. The cluh hopes to commence actual tyaining later this year.
