MANAWATU CRICKETERS RETAIN HAWKE CUP
PALMERSTON 'XTH., last night. By the comfortable margin of 264 runs, the Manawatu senior cricket eleven beat Taranaki in „the three-day Hawke Cup match, which concluded at the sports giound to-day. This is the third time this season that Manawatu has successfully defended the trophy. In view of the fact that Taranaki is regarded as one of the strongest in the minor cricket associations the form displayed -by its representatives in this match was disappointing. Manawatu in their tarst innings, compiled 288 and Taranaki replied with only 147, leaving them 81 in arrears. In their second innings, Manawatu declared with seven wickets down for 308. Taranki, in their second innings, made only 125.
