CHAMPIONSHIPS Swimmers selected to represent the ^ South Auckland Amateur Swimming centre at the New Zealand championships at Nelson and Invercargill, were an- ; nounced at a meeting of the centre in Hamilton. In all, three senior and six intermediate and junior swimmers were selected. It was also decided by the centre to assist in financirg a South Auckland j water polo team to contest the naticnal championships at Nelson. j The senior swimmers selected by | the special conmiittee (Messrs. D. j S. B. Heather, I). M. Gracie and T. j j. P. Mason), were as follows: Miss ! M. Holman (Hamilton),. D. Branch > (Ohinemrtu), and D. Ev/ert (Roto- ; rua). Junicr and intermediate rei presentatives were: G. Carrington (Hamilton), C. Nissen (Ohine1 mutu), P. McManus (Te Kuiti), Miss M. Morrison (Whakarewarewa), T. Borman and T. Duncan (Hamilton). Mr. J. Ryan, cf Morrinsville, was appointed as manager of the senior team to partieipate at Nelson on February 19, 20, 22 and 23, and Mrs. II. Branch, of Rotoroa, was appointed as chareron. At Invercargill on February 12, 13 and 15 the junior and inteimediate representatives will be ;nder the managership of Mr. C. II. H lloway. Mrs. R. E-.tgar, of Te Kuiti, '.T act as chaperon. 4 lengthy discussion ensued before :'"e rnal sclection of tha teams. Funds permitting one other senior representative would have lieen considsrcd for selection, ramely, F. Higginson, and f;ve junior and intermediate swimmers, Miss D. Edgar, (Te Ivuiti), J. Blackwood, R. Doms, J. Flack and Miss S. Q-eager (Hamilton). Following the discussion on finance it was unanimocsly decided that only ihe three senior and six intermediate and junior swimmers selected first could be financed. It was realised, however, that other swimmers financed by their own clubs or by themselves wculd he travelling to the ctempionships and would represent the South Auckland centre. Among those likely to be participating are J. Flack (Hamilton), and Miss B. Ferguson (Morrinsville).
