FEDERATION STATEMENT ON WHARF DISPUTE
WELLINGTON, last night. The secretary of the N.Z. Federation of Labour, Mr. K. Baxter, issued the fol'lowing statement to-day: — "The extraordinary conferefice of the Federation of Labour which'.^commenced on Tuesday morning, terminated at midday to-day. Approximately '210' delegates attended,J| "The Prime Minister, Mr. *aser, the Minister of Finance, Mr.lKash, and the Minister of Labour, M»McLagan, were inviteJ to attendn| and were accorded an attentive hea®ig.
"The conference endorsed t^ act of the National Executive in -Mlling an extraordinary conference of a dele- , gates from affiliated unions to' consider the waterfront dispute 4fid its effects on the Labour movement and the economy of the Dominion." The -conference carried the resolution: 'That this extraordinary conference of the N.Z.F.OX., in accordaPce with the unanimous decision of its 1946 anniual conference, that 'affiliation shall exploit all avenues of settlement before taking strike action' approves the action taken by the National Executive in connection with the watersiders' dispute.'
