NON-UNIONISTS TO SEEK HOLIDAY PAYMENT

j AUCKLAND, Last Night. ; _ A claim for statutory holiday pay is to be made by non-union water- | side workers in Auckland who confine themselves entirely to wharf j labour. j A petition, cireulating among nonunion men in the port, requests payment for the nine recognised statutory holidays on the waterfront, under conditions which apply to members of the union. It will be forwarded to the Waterfront Indusj try Commission. j The men claim that if they work ! regularly on the wharves they should be entitled to payment for the nonworking days. A large number of regular waterside workers cannot join the Waterside Workers' Union, because niembership is limited under agreement with the commission to the average npmber of men normally required to work the port. In Auckland it is about 1900. \
