Surf Ski Saves Bather
A surf ski was used in a rescue for the first time in Taranaki when a girl in danger of drowning off Fitzroy Beach, was hrought to safety by two junior members of the Fitzroy Surf Club. A strong rip had carried the girl out of her depth and she was unable to fig-Jit her way against it. She was being carried out to sea when her cries for heip were heard by the two boys, C. Chapman and J. Partridge, who were paddling with the club's surf ski about 200 yards off shore. Thev immediately went to the rescue and had little difficulty in pulling the girl on to the ski and taking her to shore. She was taken home little the worse for her experience.
