FIGHTING FLARES UP IN INDO-CHINA
PARIS, January 17. ' Six thousand Viet Nam civilians and 1000 Chinese were evacuated from Hanoi yesterday during a four hours fruce arranged by the British, American and Chinese Gonsulates. The Viet Nam radio repo.rted heavy fighting in the heart of Hanoi 'and claimed that Viet Nam troops launehed a fierce assault and knocked out a French stropgpoint despite French artillery, tanks and armoured cars. Viet Nam troops advanced on General Morlier's headquarters. AViet iNam communique also claimed the destruction of six French armoured cars and that the French siuffered heavy lo.sses in an attempted landing at Kien, four miles east of Haiphong. A French Cabinet communique issued after hearing a firsthand report from the Colonial Minister, M. Moutet, expressed France's desire to resume negotiations with Ho Ghiminh's Viet Nam Government "in an atmosphere of appeasement." ,
