, 1 An*angement For This YearV Street Appeal A special general meeting of the Rotorua hranch of the S.P.C.A., held on Wednesday night, was well attended, - and demonstrated the keen interest in the affairs of the . society which exists amongst its members. LTp until the present time, the ! Rotorua hranch had been operating under tho rules of the Hamilton Society, but in aceordance with a deeision of the executive eomrnittee, a draffc eonstitution fcr the Rotorua branch was prepared and presented to the meeting for ''consideration. The objects of the society as adopted, and identical with the Waikato Society, were as follows: — (a) To prevent or punish cruelty to animals by enforcing the laws restraining such, by promoting such furthcr legislation as may be deemed desirable, and by fostering and sustaining an intelligent publie opinion. (b) To establish and conduct any institution which may seem to the society eonducive to its objects. (c) To diffuse information on any matters aifecting the objects of the society, and to print literature as may seem eonducive to any of tliese objects. The forthcoming street appeai on January 24 was then discussed, and a good support this year was evident. A large numher of those present offered their assistance on the day. In addition to a Iarger number of collectors, it was suggested that a produce stall be arranged, and that consideration be given to the arranging of a pet parade similar to that which was sttaged last February, and which proved such a popular innovation, especially araong the children. The notiee of motion to increase the annual subseription from 2/6 a year to 5/- a year, as from November 1, was tabled, and in speaking to it, the proposer, Mr. L. G. Jackson, submitted that in many cases the present subseription was proffered as a donation rather than a inembership fee, to be renewed from year to year. At least half the members each year failed to renew their fmancial status.
