To-day's Weather Forecast The Government Meteorologist has issued the fcllowing weather report a'pd. foreeast: — Situation: An anti-cyclone, extendthe east of the South Island, is moving from, the north-west Tasman to ing slowly across New Zealand. A depression in the south-west Tasman is moving south-eastwards. Forecast for Rotorua to midnight: Light to moderate winds from a southerly quarter. Weather cool at first, and becoming fair to fine. The maximum temperature in the town area yesterday was 69 degrees, ! as compared with 57.7 degrees the i previous day. _For the 24-hour period i ended 3.30 p.m. yesterday, a rainfall | of .17 of an ineh was reeorded.
Car on Fire 'Fire, whieh threatened to destroy a tourer model motor car near the corner of Hinemoa and Fenton Streets, was responsible for the fire call whieh was sounded at 2.20 p.m. yesterday. The prompt extinguishing of the flames with a bucket pump saved the vehicle from all but superficial damage.
Three Hat-tricks in One Match An unusual feature of last Saturday's eompetition crieket in Christchurch, was the bowling of three hattricks in a third grade B match between Old Collegians and St. AlbansCathedral Grammar Old Boys. J. Manhire, of St. Albans, performed the feat in the course of taking eight wickets fcT 49, Old Collegians totalling 153. St. Albans made only 26, ' and the two bowlers to^do the hattrick were R. Brehner, who took four wickets for three runs, and J. Christie, who took three wickets fo-r two runs.
Gaol for Theft For the theft of a tent and primus stove, together valued at £18, the property of A. J. St. Clair Brown, on January 10, Joseph Hata Hona, a Maori, of Ngapuna, was sentenced to three months' imprisonment by Messrs O. H. Ccleman and J. J. Dillon, J.'sP., in the Rotorua Police Court yesterday. For the theft of a rug, valued at £5, the property of Ian Matheson, on January 6, he was convicted and discharged. An infox® mation against Denys W. Hollis, aged 19, of disoa'derly behavionr, was dismissed under Section 92 of the Justices of the Peace Aet. Alexander Graham Beli Centenary To mark the centenary this year of , the birth in Edinburgh of the invent- ; or of the telephone, the Alexander Graham Bell Centenary Association has been formed in London with the Marquess of Aherdeen as chainnan and Lord Tweedsmuir as vice-chair-%an. The main purpose .of the association is to see established ehairs, professorships and scholarships in physics and allied sciences in all universities of the Empire, the United States, South America and elsewhere. It is also prcposed to raise a worldsupported fund to found an Alexander Graham Bell College of Electricity and Physics attached to the Univorsity of Edinburgh.
