C.I.G.S. MADE EXCELLENT IMPRESSION IN MOSCOW LONDON. Moscow radio says Marshal Stalin received Field-Marshal • Viscount Montgomer^. „ The Manchester Guardian special ;orrespondent in Moscow says FieldMarshal Montgomery's speech on his arrival in Moscow made an excellent impression. His tribute to the Soviet Army, his reeognition of Russia's immense sacrifices and his expressed dgsire to establish close bonds with the Soviet Army were also very well'' 'received. Visconnt Montgomery, on his part, is most gratified by his friendly reception and particularly by the prompt acceptance of his invitation to Marshal Vasilevsky and other members of the Russian High Command to visit Britain. The correspondent st.ressess what has already been emphasised in Britain, that -the visit is primarily one of good will and that Viscount Montgomery is most" unlikely to discuss any problems other than those with which he is directly concerned as Chief of the Imperial General Staff. Field-Marshal Montgomery, after meeting Marshal Q-talin, said he looked fine and in good health. The visitiifg- soldier repeated to Marshal Stalin that he came to Moscow to establish contact with the Russian Army with the view to peacetime co-operation and friendships.
