LONDON Wlest E-nd luxury hotels an.l restaurants were accused of cornering the market of offals at a meeting of Hackney's Anti-Black Market Committee. Mr. E. E. Mill, secretary of the ccmmittee, said that in Smithfield Market offal was regularly hohght up by hoteli^rs and rcjstauratef ts, with the result that London butchers received no supplies. The chairman, Mr. C. H. Darke, president of Hackney Trades Council, criticised Dr. Edith Snmmerskill, Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Food, for not beir.g- -present to answer questions. "We asked Mr. Strachey, her hoss, ; to come along," he said, "and were ; told that he was too busy but that ; Dr. Summerskill would deputise for ; him."
