PERSIAN ELECTIONS OPEN FIERCELY
Heated Scenes And Few Votes Cast TEHERAN, January 14. Ten moior bus loads of university students toured the town shouting "Down with Qavam es Sultaneh" when the balloting in the Persian elections began yesterday The polling boeths were almost deserted except for police and army guards. Only a few votes were cast. The voting resumes to-morrow after an intervening religious festival to-day. Dr. Mohammed Mosadegh, leader of the Pei'sian Independent Coalition parties, who is opposing M. Qavam es Sultaneh's party, called on the Shali. His candidates followed him, says the Teheran coiTespondent of the Associated Press. A spokesman said that at least six of the candidates intended to remain in the palace until the Shah acted on their protests that the elections were not free. Persian tradition demands that citizens take refuge in the palace until the Shah hears their petition.
