The Army outhorities have started i the conversion of buildings at Narrow Neck military camp into fiats for married members of the regulai' force. Two units have been completed and oceupied, and a third is , in course of construction. 1 Cat With Pigeon Not many people saw it, but those who did, opened their eyes in astonishment at the sight of an Invereai'-> g-ill cat crossing a road carrying- a , pigeon in its mouth, almost the size of itself. Staggering slightly under the weight of its prey, the small, grey cat carried it tail in the air with a pride that took no notice of passing traffic. Cold Comfort A well-known Invercargill businessman connected with one of the soeial services, reeeived through the post a bottle of whisky for Christmas — or at least it appeared to be whisky. Re did not wait until his guests arrived for Christmas, but sampled it then and there. The first sip told him that he had been prexsented with a bottle of cold tea. A day or two later the police telephoned himv at Riverton • to report : that his house had been broken into, , but all that was stolen was a pound i note and a bottle of whisky — the gift bottle. Mirage Seen in Napier j A mirage in the form of a ship, trees, and an island was seen along the eastern hcrizon of Hawke's Bay one morning last week. Many Napier residents saw what appeared to be a large ship ajiproaching the port across the bay from the direction of ' Cape Kidnappers and some believed that they could see the superstructnre and a smoking funnel. After a , time the ship faded from view. For about two liours, small islands appeared in the distance and Mahia Peninsula and Portland Island — little . of which can be seen from Napier — appgared to have moved around the horizon. The rock at the end of Cape Kidnappers' promontory seerned to have moved some two miles out to sea from the cape. Horse on Golf Links A brown horse with a clipped tail and mane, was found straying on the Arikikapakapa links, near the first , teeing ground, on Saturday. It was taken in charge by the caterer, Mr. H. Richardson, and no obvious damage was done to any of the greens.
