IMPRISONED BY MOTHER FOR 30 YEARS
Man Terrified At Sight Of Human Beings LONDON, Jan. 8. A man of 39,, who was kept a prisoner from childhood in the kitchen of his mother's home, has died in a ^Manchester hospital. The prisoner was Henry Lamont Cooper. Found crouching in the corner of the kitchen after his mother's death, Cooper was terrified by the sight of human beings. He could speak only baby talk, and was unable to dress himself or eat fc-od without being helped. For 30 years, he had been spoon-fed by the mother, a widow. His imprisonment began in 1917, when the mother was advised that her nine-year-old son needed hospital treatment. She decided to look after him herself. He never left the house, never saw a motor-car, and never spoke with any other living person. When he was driven to an institute he regarded the car as a strange monster.
