CREW LEAP AS SHIP FOUNDERS
Arrival of Pilot Prevents Disaster * SYDNEY, Jan. 6. The ship's company of 13 had to jump overboard when the 230-ton wooden motor vessel Y uahwa, f ormerly the Desikoko, sank five miles south of Newcastle while being towed to port. Of the crew which consisted of an English master, aged 72, two Norwegian officers and 10 Chinese, only the captain was hurt. He sustained a fractured kneecap. . . The vessel left Sydney wit cargo of flour for China, but b 1 to take water shortly afterw. The Newcastle pilot steamer the Yuahwa in tow, but, after be towed for an hour, the vesi: suddenly listed and sank within twi. minutes. Members of the crew were picked ' up by a lifeboat. The prompt arrival of the "pilot steamer was assured hy a Newcastle surgeon who saw the plight of the Yuahwa as he passed in his fishing
launch. He immediately made for Newcastle at top speed and reported the matter.
