SPANISH WAR VETERAN GETS BACK PAY

NEW YORK Tony Simonoff, a Spanish-Ameri-oan war veteran, has at last received 347 dollars, due to hira since 1899. Simonoff joined the Army when he was 15, and was demobiiised in Panay. He had to pay his own fare home on a promise that he would be reimbursed. He vowed that he would get the money back, -but it was not till 1943 that the Recompensation Bill was introduced into Congress, passed after years of delay, and finally signed last December by President Truman that he did. Cheques have started to go out to Simonoff and 1,500 others, similarly situated. Simonoff is using the money to educate his grandson.
