MELBOURNE, Jan. 2. After Australia's tail had wagged merrily when McCooI xiade a fine century, England set out grimly to retrieve the situation on the second day cf the third Test. Hutton, Gngland's record - breaker, cigain disappointed, but Washhrook, grimly determined, and Ndrich, cairn and aggressive, were associated in. a fine unfinished partnership.
