CANADA BUILDS SHIPS FOR FRANCE
CHINA ALSO IINI MARKKET FOR RIVER VESSELS Orders totalling more than 50,000,C00 dollars are being placed in Canada for the 'construetion of new ships urgently needed by France and China, Mr. P. V. McLane, Commercial Secretary for Canada, announced this weelc. The latest French Government contracts, which have already been awarded between six Cauadian snipyards, call for the construetion of 13 cargo vessels land 140' barges at a total cost of 35,732, 825 dollars. Arrangements for placing the French contracts were made oy the Canadian Commercial Gorporation, a Crowir company established to make purchases in the Dominion on behalf of foreign governments and .purchasing missions. The Ming Sung Industrial Company Lt-d., whose present ship-huild-ing commitments in Canada are being guaranteed hy the Central Government of China, sialso arranging for the Dominion ' to build vessels required for operation on the Yangtzekiang. , The Chinese programme will call for the construetion, of three vessels six smaller ships and material and machinery required for the huilding of three tugs and 40 lighters. The Ming iSfung interests also hopfe to purchase in Canada a s'U.bstantial quantity of narrow-gauge mining ra'ilway equipment. •
