B.C.O.F. ASSISTS 'QUAKE VICTIMS IN JAPAN
TOKIO, Dec. 26. The British Commonwealth Gccupation Forces in Japan are doing all they can to assist the sufferers of the earthquake and tidal waves on Shikoku Island. Medical and other supplies are being dropped by air and 60,000 blankets are on tbe way. A British warship and three planes left their bases yesterday with further supplies. Medical teams are working night and day to relieve the suffering. General MacArthur has sent a message to the State Department, asking- the the Secretary of State, Mr Byrnes, pay a visit to Japan. It isunlikely, in view of the approaching Moscow conference, that he will be able to do so. The Australian Army Mimster, Mr. Chambers, who . is in Japan, has stated that next year he will call a conference of Austra,lian, New Zealand and Indian representatives to discuss problems connected \vith the Commonwealth Occupation forcesr
