FIGHTING IN HANOI REVIVES AFTER LULL

Meeting of Cabinet To Discuss Position LONDON, December 26. The French Cabinet is to meet tonight to discuss the position in IndoChina. French troops are now attacking" a new area of the city of Hanoi against very strong resistance. An -earlier message stated that after 74 hours of hard fighting cairn had' beeh restored in Hanoi, with the last Viet Nam snipers rounded up. French forces were eamping in the residence of the Viet Namese President, who fied, and French patrols wer eeleaning >up outlying districts. A French communique issued at Saigon stated that a column was advancing from Hanoi southward and meeting "very lively" resistance, with the Viet Namese defences -showing evidence of having been expertly prepared, probably with technical advice from former Japanese officers. The communique acTded that numerous Japanese who were. fighting in the Viet Namese ranks committed suicide during the retreat from Hanoi.
