ROTORUA YEAR-END CARNIVAL

Talent Quest Among Visitors Rotorua's Christmas and New Year carnival was opened yesterday evening with a concert on the lake front given jointly by the Rotorua Caledonian Pipe Band and the Auckland Ciry Boys' Band, with Highland dancing and other dancing items by p'upils of the Patrieia Scho-ol of Dancing. The visiting band, which has a playing strength of nearly 40, will be heard again to-night, and there will be a vocal and instrumental programme as well. ' In conjunction with the concert, there 'will be a talent quest, in which visitors who can sing, recite, or play an instrument, are invited to take part, There will also be a carnival ball at the Ritz Hall to-night. Por the' children, to-morrow afternoon, there will be a plain and fancy dress party at the lake front, and prizes will be awarded for all ages. Shnultaneously, the Bay of Plenty Swimming Sub-Centre's open carnival will be held at the Blue Baths. The programme at the lake front in the evening will be provided by Maori entertainers, and a hangi will also he set up to provide a hot supper. A Band concert will he held in the Government Gardens, on Sunday afterno-on and for the evening a sacred concert in which the Boys' Band will take ' part, ' has been arranged.
