SENTENCE FOR ATTACK ON NAVAL OFFICER
SYDNEY, Dec. 23. "A sentence of ten years' imprisonment with hard labour was imposed' on David Stewart Dawson, the 24-year-old company director, by Mr. Justice Holt to-day, for maliciously wounding George Rankin McKay, a former Naval officer, at the accused's home, Palm Beach, on September 8, with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. His Honor said that Dawson's sentence would he reviewed if his conduct was exemplary, after he had served two years. The Judge said he had taken into consideration the provocation received from McKay, whose conduct, he said, was contemptible in the extreme. Dawson's action in shooting McKay was described as arrogant and ruthless. ^ The jury urged leniency on account of accused's youth.
