FINANCIAL HELP FOR MEDICAL SERVICE
CANBERRA, Dec. 23. The Federal Government national medical scheme will provide financial aid for young doctors to enter the nationalised medical service. The most attractive proposal will bfe a free or heavily subsidised course of training at an Australian university, in return for which help the ybitng docto-r will be expected to serve the national medical organisation for a specified number of years. Brealdng Down Opposition Officials believe that this scheme swill break down the British Medical ^Assoeiation opposition to the nationalised scheme and will eircumvent the difficulties ereated by the constitutional proviso that no-body can be eonscripted into the national medical service. The Government may also decide that by placing registration of doctors on a Commonwealth instead of the present State basis it may gain a firmer grip c-n the medical profession. As a direct result of the added powers on soeial serviees granted to the Federal Government at the last election, the Minister of Health and Social Serviees, Senator McKenna, will shortly introduce a national medical bill aimed at giving free medical service to the people.
