Scales Interfered With At Kurow Races

OAMARU, Last Night, An inquiry was held by the judidal committee of the Kurow Jockey Club into a complaint that the official weighing scales liad been tampered witl belore the meeting. Evidence was given hy the clerk of the scales, Mi. M. R. Allan, that a piece of lead weighing a.nound. and a-quarter had heeji iuserted into two 56-pound testing weights for Ihe scales and the weighing adjustmonts had been altered accordingly. The conmuttac, after hearing the evidence oi the clerk of the scales and the jockeys, A. J. Stokes, K. Xattall, A. S. Murray and R. P. Reg- . ister, decided that the scales had been tampered with, but that there : was insuffic ient evidence to find Ihe culprits.
