Provided the Government gave the "green light" to industry, the "atomic generation of electric power could be accomplished within five years at an original. cost comparable with present modern methods, and eventually for mueh less. This statement is contained in the report of a group of New England experts, headed by the president -of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Dr. Karl Compton, one of the men who developed the atomic bomb. The report added it was likely that the first commercial uses o$ atomic power would he for purposes needing heavy and continuous loads of power.
