JAPANESE COMMUNIST DEMONSTRATION
To Impress MacArthur With Left-Wing Strength TOKIO, December 18. Communist and other large leftwing leaders to-day organised a large but orderly demonstration, carrying flags and banners, and comprising approximately 400,000 shabbily dressed men, women and boys. The Associated 'Press' correspondent says that the demonstration, j which. was larger than the May Day | gathering, was obviously intended to 1 impress General MacArthur with left wing strength, rather than carry out its ostensible purpose of forcing Premier Yoshida's resignation. As expected, the House of Representatives defeated by 236 votes to 160 the resolution to dissolye the Diet. , General MacArthur drove through the demonstrators, who readily made way for his well known sedan. Many units in the demonstration waved red banners and sang the Internationale."
